What Are Fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumors that grow on or within the muscle tissue of the uterus. Approximately 20-40% of women 35 years and older have fibroids. Fibroids are more common among women of African-American descent.

Is There An Alternative to Surgery?
Uterine fibroid embolization is a non-surgical, uterus sparing procedure that treats symptomatic fibroids, which is performed by an interventional radiologist.

What about insurance coverage?
The majority of healthcare insurance companies have a UFE policy where they will cover the procedure if it is medically necessary. Their guidelines usually include patient selection and the criteria for medical necessity.
